World Happenings

Right now there is a lot going on in the world.  We have ISIS causing trouble in Iraq.  We have the Syrian civil war.  There is the Ukraine craziness.  The mass killings in coastal Kenya.  And don’t forget the World Cup.  Thank God for the World Cup, a good distraction that is.

So lets do a quick break down.

The ISIS is a Sunni group that wants to combine Iraq, and al-Sham (aka Syria), under their rule.  They are also one of the opposition groups in Syria.  Well, their troops and the old Hussein Baathists have been spreading across Iraq, and are now threatening Baghdad.  This begs the question of what to do, and the Obama administration has decided to not do a thing, except send Marines in to protect the US embassy, because they don’t need another Benghazi.  Oh they are also talking to Iran to see if we can work together.  Not sure if that will work, but oh well.

Now what do I think about this?  I have no clue, I don’t think there is a good option.  Plus, the Iraqis have to figure this out.  I wish these things weren’t violent, but when the two sides are so opposed, and not willing to come to a consensus, the only option is violence.  Should we help?  I doubt anything we would do would have any lasting effect.  The Iraqis need to figure it out themselves.

Ok, now onto the Syrian civil war, I think I’ve said everything that needs to be said.  Really its much like Iraq, violence is bad, but it needs to be sorted out, one way or the other.

Ukraine?  I see why Russia is doing what it is, and I understand why Ukraine doesn’t want them to, but that ends that discussion.  I’ve already said more on that one.

The killings in Kenya were first thought to be done by al-Shabab, but now the Kenya is saying that it was due to internal politics.  This to me is sad, Kenya is a great country, with great people, unfortunately they still have issues that need to be sorted out.  Hopefully this get this sorted.

And now the World Cup.  It has been a great tournament, no matter the worries that came before the games.  That Mexican goalie Ochoa had a great game yesterday.
