Happy or Unhappy Tax Day, you patriotic Americans. If history has ever taught us anything, it is to make sure you pay your taxes. Just ask Scarface, Al Capone.
To go along with tax day, there are many articles that show how much money goes to the government, and also who actually pays those taxes.
This year, the two are, we spend more on taxes than housing, food, and clothes combined, and then there’s, 45% of Americans pay no federal income tax.
It’s interesting how the first is aimed at making everyone think that taxes are too high, and then the latter is aimed to anger those who actually pay taxes, by the end of the process.
Both are technically correct, but it just shows how data can be skewed in any direction.
You could also report both things at once by saying that the top 30%, or so, of people pay more in taxes than what everyone spends on housing, food and clothes.
Let’s try a more heart felt look at this though. Let us look at the information with a view that shows that our system of taxation allows those in the bottom tiers of our society the ability to spend their money on survival, and a few luxuries in order to make life bearable, and not on taxes that won’t significantly improve their living conditions.
But wait…Does that make us socialists?
