Recently Pope Francis said that
communists are actually Christians. This is based on Jesus’ teachings that the poor need to be helped, but Jesus also knew that there would always be poor. The Bible also says that Jesus said that we need to give our government its due. Since Jesus never talked about economic policy, I think to say such things is anti-historical. Just like Elton John saying that
Jesus would have supported gay marriage if he were alive right now. Don’t you love people trying to back up their argument based on assumed positions of historical figures? Well, we all know what assuming does, makes an ass out of you and me.
Oh, dear Sir Elton John, I remember you saying that gay marriage wasn’t needed, and that was only a couple of years ago. What gives? (Personally for me, do what you want, but don’t bring up historical people. Just a pet peeve of mine.)
Back to the original thing though, the pope. He must be forgetting that communists are atheists. Just because you care about the poor, and want them taken care of, does not mean that you are a communist. It isn’t surprising that he doesn’t understand the difference though, he isn’t an economist, so I’ll give him a pass. Now that I’ve said my peace that is.
