Stupid timing, is there another game afoot?S
Whether you like or dislike Donald Trump’s policies, he picked the stupidest time to have this political battle of wills. In 2017, he threatened to shut down the government over the wall twice, but then he caved, and now he’s decided to actually do it, it just doesn’t make sense. The timing that is.
In 2017, he had a much better chance of having a shutdown actually work. With a Republican controlled House of Representatives, the number of votes that needed to be bargained for was much smaller. But, for whatever reason, he’s decided to force the shutdown when the other party is in control of the House, and now that the Democrats hold the House where there is little chance of a deal actually being struck.
In the political climate that we live in, there is little chance that anything significant will get done. The Democrats hate Trump and the Republicans, and the Republicans and Trump are always attacking the Democrats. Neither side, especially the two parties, want the other side to win.
This begs the question: Is Trump actually aiming to build the wall, or is he using this as a smoke screen for some other policy priority? If the latter, I have no clue what it would be.
Why nothing gets done on immigration, even when either party holds both congress and the White House.
Not only is the timing wrong, but neither side wants to end the immigration game, it is good for both political parties.
The Republicans use the threat of illegal immigration to bring their base out, and the Democrats use the idea that they will make the illegals legal to bring out their base. Neither side actually wants to get it done, because that means that they have one thing less to propel them to victory.
If you don’t believe it, why didn’t either party do something when they had a chance?
The American people are being played by the political parties.
Prime time speeches
Oh, and those prime-time speeches were pointless, and didn’t given anyone anything new. It was Trump saying, “ Blah blah blah,” and Schumer and Pelosi saying, “Nah Nah Nah.”
