Whoever gets paid to blur out brands and logos must get paid a fortune.
I first noticed this trend of blurring logos and brands when watching hip-hop videos on MTV. At that point in time I thought maybe they were covering up profanity or nudity. Then it dawned on me, at some point, that they were covering up logos and brands, because half the time I could tell what they were covering up, by other clues.
This annoyed me to no end, but I could live with it in videos, for it didn’t intrude upon my normal day to day life.
This has changed within the recent past, to now include everything, including new and old movies shown on TV.
The reason for this, I really don’t know. Maybe the companies, from either end don’t want to be sued, or something stupid like that. All I know is that it really pisses me off.
Every time I notice it, I first try to figure out what the brand was, and then I get mad at the channel and change it.
Whatever the reason is, stupid as it maybe, they really need to do a better job of it, because all they ever delete is the brand name, and nothing else.
If they somehow covered the design it would be better, but you can tell what it is. This is especially annoying with older movies, because you have to first remember the design and then put a name to it. In this movie I was watching on MyTv, there was a movie from the 1980’s, and one of the props was a bag of chips. Once i laid eyes on the bag, I could not help but figure out what brand it was. After a little time of searching the memory banks, I realized that it was a Doritos bag.
I’ve seen the same with Pepsi cans, Coke cans, and many other products, but I am always able to know what it is. It’s almost like Where’s Waldo in every movie ever made.
Maybe it’s a plan of Obama’s to create jobs. How many people does it take to hide brands? I’m thinking we could really expand the job potential by hiding all the brands on TV, period. This would mean no brands on commercials, news, or even infomercials. I’m thinking this could raise the GDP by at least .5%.
There you go Obama. Hope you like my idea.
