On Monday I visited the Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant in Newark, DE. It is one of a little chain of breweries and the beer is an excellent quality for a chain. Most brewery chain’s beers are quite watery, but Iron Hills is more balanced, and it still seemed to have the joy behind it that many microbreweries do, in a spotless way, which just seemed odd.
The Grodziski was good, as well as the IPA. The Red Lager was alright, but I’m not a big lager fan, actually I usually hate lagers, but the red aspect did help it a bit. The American Ale was different than many that I have tasted, for it tasted of flowers. I know this was from the hops, which it was loaded with, but it was not the normal bitter that one associates with hops.
While writing this I gained more respect for the brewery. I was looking for more information on the brewery, and I saw that each location has its own specialty beers that they offer. This shows that there is some artistry to their beers unlike many chain style breweries.
I did not have any of their food, but then who needs food when you have beer.
Check them out, and their locations at www.ironhillbrewery.com.
