Gov. Sanford of South Carolina just said that he had a extra-marital affair with a woman from Argentina that started innocently by just having a friendship over email. This illustrates the fact that communication can destroy or save a marriage. It just depends on who you are communicating, your spouse or someone else.
This is the reason why you never say something to someone else that you haven’t already told your spouse. That is the secret. If a person starts talking to someone else, especially of the opposite sex, at least for straight people, this can lead to an emotional relationship that can lead to a sexual relationship.
There is always the argument that some use, that they should be able to have friends of the opposite sex. This is true to a point, but it is a fine line one must walk in order for it to work.
This isn’t a problem that is only in the main stream way of life. It even affects those in “open” marriages, where they are able to have sexual partners outside the marriage.
Once a person starts talking to another, many start lying to their spouse or start ignoring them. These are small signs that need to be watched out for. A spouse is supposed to be your partner in all things, and you are supposed to share your hopes, fears, dreams, and nightmares with them.
The break down of this communication is the first step in many divorces, and separations.
To have a way to keep the communication going strong, is a great way to keep relationships going. There are other problems, but communication leads to affairs more than anything else.
