Yesterday the Supreme Court heard arguments on Obama’s illegal immigration work around.
As I have stated before, I believe that his executive discretion is dangerous to the illegal immigrants themselves.
Given that his policies are purely based on executive discretion, there is a chance that a different president could end his programs. This means that the immigrants would still have deportation and family splintering hanging over their heads. That is no way to live.
Beyond immigration though, his policies put everyone in danger. If it is allowed to stand, any president in the future could use the same technique to change any aspect of the law.
Take Obamacare as an example. If a Republican becomes the next president, they could unilaterally decide to gut it with executive discretion.
The list of possible executive discretions could become endless, which would negate congress’ role in our government. And that doesn’t even get into the problem of knowing which laws will be enforced and which won’t.
Just think about the marijuana laws. It is still illegal in every state, even for medical uses, because it is illegal at the federal level. The Justice Department has been turning a blind eye, but that could change at any moment.
How can a legitimate business operate if they don’t know which laws are up for negotiation?
I don’t know about you, but ending up in jail is a failed business model.
Ruling by administrative fiat is dangerous, because it puts our lives in the hands of a presidential whim.
