There has been a trend throughout the world that tries to bring different political groups together when there is a disputed election. This trend is a sickness on the world, and rarely, if ever, solves the problems.
These so called "Unity Governments" are a joke. The Kenyan Government is an example of this for there is in fighting and corruption scandals that keep growing. The situation in Zimbabwe is much worse though, because the "Unity Government" is a dictatorship that has no input from the opposition party. At least the the Kenyans are trying, but there doesn’t seem to be much faith from the Kenyan people that there government is functioning the way it should.
Yes these "agreements" did end violence in these countries, but they are not nearly as stable as they were before the kumbaya moment. The troubles are seem to stretch for a longer time, because nothing was figured out. The issues at hand were put to the side, and are not considered as they should have been.
The problem though is that the US and the rest of the world think that there needs to be peace at any cost. This has been tried in the past, but it has failed; we ended up with one of the costliest wars in history, WWI. The alliance system during the 19th century was meant to bring peace and stability, which it did for many years, but in the end it also was a major reason why WWI escalated like it did.
Given this it is pathetic that Obama is wanting the Israelis to form a "Unity Government", for all it creates is a struggle between the two parties that have many differences. Even though the political ideologies aren’t that far apart there will be power struggles, for both think that they are the winners and are entitled the majority of power, or they will argue over how is in charge of what.
No matter what, the problem with power sharing is that it doesn’t solve the underlining problem. I’m not saying that there is a problem in Israel, but it is up to that country to decide who will be in power. The fact that Obama wants to stick his nose in an issue that is not his is wrong and should not be. What would we, in the US, think if an outside power decided how we should handle our internal affairs. I don’t know about you but I would be upset.
