Odd Timing for Funding Syrian Militants

Obama has just proposed giving $500 million to moderate rebels in Syria.  This comes at a time when ISIS is busy in both Syria and Iraq.  While ISIS isn’t one of the moderate rebel groups, it seems like odd timing to start backing rebel groups in Syria.

We have waited years, and haven’t lifted a finger.  Why are we now thinking about helping the rebels?

My assumption is that if we give to Syrian rebels, the help will somehow end up with ISIS.  Whether with alliances, or with inter-faction warfare.  So, with that we would be helping one group take out the Iraqi government that we set up.

Whatever the case, there are no good options.  But overall I see no long term advantage for the US in giving moderate rebels $500 million.
